INTERVIEW
Tell us about your job/studies
I am currently studying Hospitality Management and also working in the Hospitality business as a Front Desk Agent at a prestigious hotel on the island. Our island depends 80% directly and indirectly on the tourism industry and I am glad to be able to contribute to it.
How are you preparing for Miss World in South Africa?
It has always been my dream to participate for Miss World. Since I was very young, I always thought that the Miss World pageant was the biggest pageant that existed. When I participated for Miss Aruba I already started to prepare for the Miss World pageant! This may sound funny, but it’s true!
What's your daily routine?
I get up in the morning, spend time with my family, especially my grandmother, take care of my school obligations, go to work, spend time with my friends and colleagues and afterwards return home to my cousins who I spend lots and lots of time with as well.
How do you feel about travelling to South Africa?
Since I like exploring new countries and cultures and have traveled quite a bit, but never visited South Africa, I am excited about the idea of going to visit South Africa and getting to know its culture! My uncle recently visited South Africa and got me all excited to experience it myself! Reading stories in our history books and knowing that most of my ancestors came from the African continent, I find it very interesting to experience South Africa and returning back home after the pageant to tell everyone what the experience and place is like.
Which elements of Miss World are you most looking forward to?
To be honest EVERYTHING! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am sure that after the pageant there will be no other opportunity to experience a fun filled month with about a 100 different countries and getting to know one specific culture (South African) and that of the others as well.
Do you have a message to the other Miss World contestants?
We as contestants will be brought together in South Africa to make the pageant the event that it is. On stage we are representing our countries, but when off stage we are the girls who can and make it happen. My message to all the girls and in general is: “We are put on this earth as human beings to work together and when working together we can accomplish much more than by working alone.” Keep that in mind.
What do you think are you qualities that youwill bring to the competition?
I am very energetic and my energy is contagious. That is just one of my qualities, be pending for the rest!
What individual talents will seperate you from the other contestants?
I speak many different languages and can communicate with just about everyone. I think that that will help me get closer to all the other contestants and get them closer to each other also.
What would it mean to you to do well at Miss World?
It will mean the WORLD to me. I know that I will do my outmost best and by doing that I’m already doing well for my country and for myself.
What is your favourite landmark?
The mountain “Nevado del Ruiz”. I chose a landmark that is not of my own country, because it has a special meaning to me. It is actually a mountain in Colombia that is 5800 km. tall and is the place where I saw snow for the first time. This landmark is originally from my grandmothers birthplace, so I think my country will excuse me for chosing it
What is the one thing you cannot live without?
There is not just one thing that I cannot live without. My body, mind and soul need different things to keep on going and live. I can mention the one thing that the different parts of my body can’t live without. My body cannot live without water or I will die. My mind needs to be challenged or it will get frustrated and my soul needs love or it will grow cold
Who do you most admire?
I admire a lot of people. But the one who I most admire and get inspired from is my grandmother. I think highly of what she thinks and I think that she has passed through enough experiences in life to tell me and show me the rights from wrongs. I choose to take her advice because she molded me and created part of my way of thinking. Who better to show and give me advice than her?
Who has inspired you most in your life?
My grandmother
What is your favourite photo?
My favorite picture was taken on the day of my Holy Communion. It shows my faith and myself in my early days.
